On-Campus Health Center
Mission Statement for the LAS Health Center
The Health Center offers holistic care, including illness treatment, injury care, and mental health support, while minimizing academic and activity disruptions.
General Information
The Savoy and Belle Époque Health Centers have three full-time nurses and two counselors, providing 24/7 coverage during school sessions. A Nurse Manager oversees operations, and a Health Center Assistant manages administration and transport. Staff follow Swiss medical standards, which may differ from other countries. The on-call nurse is within 30 minutes of campus, and the on-call counselor within an hour, with duty numbers reserved for emergencies.
Automated External Defibrillators
There are five AEDs on campus, regularly maintained by nursing staff. Locations: Savoy 1st floor, Beau Site foyer, Beau Reveil foyer, MMAC gym (floor -1), and BEC main hallway across from the Dean’s office.
Contacting the LAS Health Center
Parents can contact the Health Center at +41 24 493 4833 during school hours or email nurses@las.ch. For emergencies, call the Administrator on Call at +41 79 386 9305.
Nurse Clinics
Doctor Appointments
A school doctor visits the Savoy Health Center weekly to see students by appointment. For additional medical needs, the Health Center arranges appointments at a local medical clinic. Students are transported by the school and typically attend these appointments independently. Following the consultation, the nurse receives a detailed report from the doctor, collects any prescribed medications, and updates the student’s health record to facilitate communication with parents.
Accident and Health Insurance for Boarding Students
Boarding students are covered by mandatory Swiss accident and health insurance, included in school fees. Coverage includes basic medical care in Switzerland and emergency care abroad (up to double Swiss costs). Exclusions: first-class rooms, continuing treatment outside Switzerland, treatment after leaving LAS, repatriation, eye care, and dental.
A CHF 300 insurance contribution is charged each semester. LAS is not liable for uncovered costs. Families with existing Swiss insurance should submit a certificate to insurance@las.ch. Additional coverage for non-essential care during vacations is recommended.
Confidentiality
Nurse Confidentiality
Nurses follow confidentiality protocols per Swiss law. Parents are notified via Magnus Health about routine care. According to Swiss law, your child is entitled to confidentiality regarding health-related issues on the principle of capacity of judgement, however parental involvement is always encouraged.
Counselor Confidentiality
Faculty Confidentiality
Medical Records
LAS uses Magnus Health SMR for secure, accurate student medical records, accessible to parents and staff. The web-based system minimizes paperwork and ensures continuous updates. All records are confidential, with hard copies securely stored in the Health Center. Parents are notified via email after a student has a consultation in order to log in and access details.
Off-Campus Medical Care
The Health Center coordinates all off-campus medical appointments, scheduling them to minimize academic disruption. Parents should notify the Health Center of private appointments as soon as possible. Transportation is provided by LAS, with fees for chaperones (CHF 40/hr) and travel (CHF 100-150). This amount will be billed directly to the student via their student account. Missed or late-cancelled appointments incur a fee, and frequent absences may prompt the Health Center to contact parents and discontinue organization of the appointments.
Hospitalization
If a student is hospitalized, parents will be contacted as soon as possible. In severe cases, the AOC will first communicate, with a follow-up from the nurse after stabilization or medical care. Parents will receive a note through Magnus Health with any pertinent details.
Excuse from classes & Health Promotion
Health Center beds are available for students who are too ill to attend class; students must rest in the Health Center, not in their dorm room, and may not engage in after-school activities or travel on the day they rest there. Resting due to late assignments or weekend travel will result in the loss of travel privileges the following weekend. Students resting during the school day receive a Health Promotion early check-in. If resting before a Pass weekend, their Pass privileges are suspended, and ill students cannot leave for off-campus lunch.

Illness at Night or on the Weekend
Health Exemption From Ski Season
Students seeking a ski/snowboard exemption for the season must provide a medical certificate or parental explanation, updated annually and sent to nurses@las.ch. Exempt students must either be in a supervised study hall or alternative physical activity, if possible.
Medications
Do not send your student to LAS with any medication unless it is accompanied by a diagnostic report and a prescription with the medication name, ingredients, and dosage clearly labeled in English. Students may not keep medication in the dorm without nurse approval, including over-the-counter items. Any medications found in student rooms will be confiscated and stored in the Health Center. If a student is ill or injured, the LAS Health Center will provide necessary medication, either through a doctor's prescription or approved over-the-counter options. Parents consent to the nurse and pastoral care team administering over-the-counter medications, taking into account any allergies and the manufacturer's recommended dosage. Students who take daily prescription medications are responsible for remembering to take them independently. The health center provides a one-week supply at a time.
Medical Conditions Requiring Advanced Care
If a student cannot attend class due to serious illness or injury, the Health Center will coordinate with parents and the dorm head to create a care plan. Options include returning home, temporary parental care in Leysin, or arranging a personal caregiver at the parents’ expense. If a parent comes to Switzerland to care for their child, they assume responsibility for the student's medical care until the student returns to school.
Personal, Social, and Emotional Counseling
Counselors support academic, career, and personal development, connecting students, parents, and teachers. Services include 1:1 sessions, group counseling, and faculty consultation. Ongoing issues may lead to outside therapy referrals with parent consent. Students who harm or threaten harm may be asked to withdraw.
